Device presence for Personal TV

There exists a growing market for consumer devices with media playback capabilities and network connectivity. This provides the Personal TV project at Ericsson with an excellent opportunity to enable consumers to use hardware they choose themselves, hardware they might already own since these technologies are becoming more common with every new generation of consumer electronics. These devices use Universal Plug and Play (UPnP) and are certified by the Digital Living Network Association (DLNA). This thesis investigates how to connect these home domain devices to the IMS-based Personal TV infrastructure, in order to make the operator aware of which devices are present, what capabilities they have, and the current state these devices are in. Information necessary to enable media delivery to devices of this kind through the Personal TV system. The thesis presents a solution to this problem, an analysis, as well as suggestions on what can be done to improve the implemented solution further. Device presence for Personal TV
